There is no certainty that UK business energy prices will fall during the remainder of 2026. Business contract prices are influenced by wholesale gas and electricity markets, network charges, policy costs, the supplier’s purchasing strategy and the date on which a contract is agreed.
As of September 2026, wholesale energy markets remain volatile. Ofgem has linked recent increases in energy costs to higher wholesale gas prices and continuing international market disruption. The domestic price cap is due to rise again for the period from 1 October to 31 December 2026. That cap does not apply to business contracts, but the underlying wholesale conditions can also influence the prices offered to businesses.
Businesses already on fixed contracts may not see an immediate change because their agreed unit rates remain fixed until the contract ends. A business approaching renewal is more exposed to current market conditions.
It is therefore more useful to monitor available forward contract prices and compare renewal options than to assume that waiting will automatically produce a cheaper deal.
