How much does an ESOS assessment cost?

There is no fixed cost for an ESOS assessment. The price depends on the size and complexity of the organisation, the amount of energy data involved and the work needed to complete the assessment.

The number and type of sites can have a significant effect on cost. An organisation with factories, vehicle fleets and several different business activities will usually require more work than an office-based company operating from a small number of similar buildings. Costs can also increase where energy records are incomplete, sites are very different from one another or the corporate group structure is complex.

Government estimates have previously put the cost of an ESOS audit at around £6,000 to £15,000 over a four-year compliance period, although this should be treated as an indication rather than a current market price.

When comparing ESOS quotes, check what is included. The scope may cover energy data analysis, site visits, energy audits, Lead Assessor review, preparation of the ESOS report, evidence pack and support with the MESOS notification. It is also worth checking whether the price includes later work on the Action Plan and annual Progress Updates.
